Many people have lost their jobs which makes it hard to provide for their families. Even worse is the food shelters that would normally help are not receiving as many donations during spring.

In order to help fight hunger, Walmart has teamed up with food brands: ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg’s. It is called Fighting Hunger Together and is expected to generate 43 million meals for families in need.

We can also join the fight against hunger in-store or through Facebook.

Starting Monday, April 9th-30th, everyone can shop in-store and buy select products from ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg’s. There will be signs in the store and specially marked packages. Fighting Hunger Together will donate meals to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids (a non-profit fighting childhood hunger).

Walmart is also asking everyone to Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart on Facebook. Starting Monday April 9-30 go to Facebook for the communities in need of hunger relief. I am voting for El Centro, CA. That area has an almost 30% unemployment rate! No one should ever go hungry. Walmart will donate a total of $2 million to the 21 communities receiving the most support: $1 million to the winner and $50,000 each to the 20 runners-up. Winning communities will be announced May 1st, 2012.

Walmart is also asking for everyone to spread the word. I know I will by Facebook, Twitter, and my blog. Fighting Hunger Together is a wonderful program to help feed America. You can vote daily on the Facebook campaign page.

Let’s join together to help feed those in need.

Light It Up Blue for Autism!

thriftymommaramblingsMonday April 2nd is Light it Up Blue Campaign to spread more awareness for Autism. As you know my son has Pervasive Developmental Delay which is on the Autism spectrum. Many people look at me in disbelief if I tell them he is on the spectrum. I guess they think he will show physical signs to let me know hey this kid has a disorder. Well I’m sorry to disappoint you, but many disorders do not have physical traits which clearly label a person. It is a huge pet peeve as you can imagine. I feel sometimes I do have to fight harder for him since he is mildly affected. I am so grateful it is not severe, but it does get tiring when you have to fight so hard even with the doctors and medical professionals.

I am thrilled for such wonderful organizations to help spread more awareness such as Austim Speaks. Light it up Blue was started in 2007 to help shine a light on Autism globally. Everyone can help by wearing a blue shirt tomorrow to show support. You can also talk to friends and family. Have your children wear blue to school. The teachers at my son’s school are all wearing blue tomorrow. You can also tweet, share on facebook, blog about it to help spread more awareness. You can go to Light It Up Blue to find banners and even a profile badge to change for facebook and twitter. There is also a cover page for your Facebook Timeline. If you want to learn more about Autism then go to Austim Speaks.

Will you light it up blue to help shine a light on Autism tomorrow?

May is National Mobility Awareness Month

This post brought to you by NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I know many people who still lead extremely active lives who have mobility issues. But did you know that over 18 million people in the U.S. and Canada have mobility issues? Of that number, 6 million of them are veterans. People with disabilities are the 2nd largest minority which is why mobility equipment manufacturers and others are dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities. To celebrate their active lifestyle and educate others May is National Mobility Awareness Month

National Mobility Awareness is looking for local heroes to submit their stories to be showcased by national and local media. If you know someone who is struggling with limited mobility or a caregiver, then either send in their story or encourage them to send it in to National Mobility Awareness.

These inspirational stories will be shared online through Facebook, the blog, and website. You will be able to read these stories and vote on them at www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com to win one of the custom Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV). The favorite stories will be chosen and the winners will be awarded the WAV on a popular national television. A minimum of three custom WAV’s will be given away.

Mike Savicki is the National Spokesperson, who is a 44-year old, C6, 7 quadriplegic, who is a veteran, athlete, advocate and entrepreneur.

National Mobility Awareness Month is sponsored by the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association along with the following:

  • BraunAbility
  • Bruno Independent Living Aids
  • VMI/Vantage Mobility International
  • Toyota
  • Chrysler
  • SanTan Honda Superstore in Chandler, AZ

Remember May is National Mobility Awareness month and educate yourself on the challenges so many millions of people face.

On the Go with Lenovo’s ThinkVision LCD Monitor

This post brought to you by Lenovo. All opinions are 100% mine.

Flat Panel - 14

Many bloggers are on the go from conferences to traveling for sponsors. Some are giving speeches and presenting to audiences. There are times when you can use an extra screen to multi-task when making a presentation. This monitor is durable enough for traveling.

The best part of the Lenovo ThinkVision monitor is how light and thin it is, but still has a 14″ screen to easily see your documents on the screen. It is also super easy to use. Just plug in the USB cable into your laptop and prop it up on the frame stand. That is all there is to it. You can tilt it to the angle you need and choose from 16 brightness levels. These monitors are put through rigorous testing to ensure reliability and dependability.

I would love to have one of these for my classes at school. This would really come in handy for my English literature classes. Many times I need to be able to take notes on the laptop while trying to look at online readings. I refuse to print out 20 or more pages which can be quite costly with ink and paper. There is the other problem of trying to keep up with so many pages in my folder. This very handy monitor would eliminate this problem.

Lenovo has sweetened the deal with 10% off the ThinkVision LCD monitor if you purchase it online with the following information:

  • Code: LENOVOMONITOR10
  • Dates: 3/1/12 – 3/31/12
  • Discount: 10% off
  • Part number: 1452DS6
